The Tongue of an Angel

What do you do when you are criticized by the man you love?  Ask the Lord to bless you with the tongue of an angel.  Sometimes, you will feel impressed to speak a soft word or to say nothing at all.

Sometimes….lullabying the fathers means that you must bite your tongue for a short while, pray under your breath and wait until the spirit of kindness is present in your heart.

Meanwhile…never say anything you will regret.  Speak only when you feel the spirit of the Lord possessing you…

Silence can be improved upon with a word of kindness.  But, harshness, defensiveness and curt words only make the wound that much deeper to mend….

Love, Karyn Grant

Who Will Lullaby The Prison?

Good Morning Karyn,

How are things?  You mentioned when at Lone Peak that you were going to make a master of the 2 songs you wrote for the prison and make the master available for us to make copies from. I just wondered if, in your busy schedule, you had been able to do that.?

The men have been listening to the CD that you left with us, I don’t think it has rested overnight in our library since you left. It just goes from hand-to-hand, from one man to another. They certainly have enjoyed your music!  Looking forward to you and Tom being there on April 22, and for the messages you will bring!

Who Will Lullaby The Grandfather’s?

Who Will Lullaby The Grandfather’s?

By Karyn Grant

My daughter, Lara, who is seventeen years old came home from her usual, all night shift, where she works as a CNA, for the elderly.  Often, she comes in and shares “the story of the evening” with me, about the night’s events at the care center where she spends each night.

Recently, Lara was saddened because sweet “Marion”, an elderly gentlemen who Lara has cared for and who was her “favorite” passed away.  I felt Marion’s passing would be soon in coming because Lara would often share with me, that when she would take Marion his food, he would always stop to bless it.  Often, in the middle of his blessing, he would look up from his prayer and ask Lara, “Is that Jesus I see coming down the hallway?”

I have often told Lara how special her work is in taking care of the grandfathers and grandmothers as they prepare to meet the Savior again.  I have noticed how respectfully Lara speaks of them, how she is amused by them.  Often, Lara and I have laughed and even shed a few tears, over the stories she has shared with me, about them.

The other morning, I heard Lara come in, as usual from her graveyard shift.  I called sleepily out to her, “Did you get any sleep tonight, honey?”  I am concerned about Lara; because she is trying to finish her last few months of High School.  With her rigorous schedule, she can hardly get a good night’s sleep anymore.  She is constantly being awakened to care for the needs of the aging, to give them their meds, to tuck them back into bed, to assist them in anyway she can…

“No, not really…” she sighed sleeplily, coming in and sitting on my bed at 7:00 a.m.  “What happened?” I asked, getting ready to preach a tender little motherly sermon about “the importance of getting a good night’s sleep so she could make it to school on time.”  Instead, I listened as Lara shared “the story of the evening”.  I learned a tender lesson, which awakened something in my soul.

“In the middle of the night, one of the staff heard some banging on the outside doors.  So, she, the hispanic woman went to see what the problem was.  Lying on the ground, just outside the doors, was an 85 year old man, huddling in the freezing cold.  He didn’t have any shoes on and his hands and feet were all cut up as though he had been crawling through the night looking for help.  He must have come from one of the homes in the neighborhood, and lost his way.  He couldn’t remember his phone number, but he could remember his name, so I looked up his number in the phone book and called his wife at 4:00 a.m. in the morning.”

“Then Maria, the other girl and I made a little bed for him on the floor because he was too big for us to move.  We bundled him up because he was shivering so bad it looked like he was having seizures!”  Lara continued with her story…”His wife came to pick him up and Mom, it was so sad because she hadn’t even known he was missing.  She said they went to bed at 11:00 p.m. and that he must have gone out for a little midnight stroll in the ice cold.  That’s when we learned that he has dymentia…We called the paramedics so that they could come and see if he was suffering from the effects of the cold.  Mom, I don’t want to get old.  It’s so sad…”

As I listened to my daughters “story of the evening”, I was moved to compassion for the elderly.  How they have spent their whole lives, giving of themselves to their spouses, careers and children…and in the end…who is it that cares for them, that listens to them, that ministers to these angels?

I wondered, “Who will lullaby the grandfathers?  A seventeen year old girl? A busy single mother? An old forgotten friend?  After all, we are the only voice that God has!” I thought to myself.  But, then I changed my mind.

This early morning, after pondering Lara’s story, I wrote it down and when I rose to go back to bed, I felt  an angel’s embrace.  I recognize the ministering of angels because I have had a few unseen visits from them.  But this one, caught me off guard.  Immediately, I sensed Marion’s spirit standing beside me.  Tears sprang to my eyes as I wondered why a man I had never met, would come to visit me.

“Tell Lara, thank you for caring for me…” came the almost audible whisper.  I recognize the voice of angels.  I believe that listening hearts can hear them.  Before I had time to formulate the thought, “Will you be my daughter’s ministering angel?”  Marion’s spirit answered, “Yes!” in a robust, but gentle way.  “Tell Lara, thank you for taking care of me and tell her, that yes, that was Jesus coming down the hallway.”

I called Lara, interrupting her sleep at the care center at 5:30 a.m. this morning.  “Lara”, I whispered through my tender tears…”What’s wrong, Mom?”  “Nothing…” I answered her back…  “I just received word from your dear friend Marion.  He told me to tell you thank you for taking such good care of him.  I asked him to be your ministering angel when I can’t be with you…oh and Lara, that was Jesus coming down the hallway!”

I know that Lara will be blessed for her countless, sleepless nights spent serving the elderly. For if each one of them, returns to thank her in this way, by being a ministering angel to her, I know that she will be in good hands.  For the hands of angels are, after all, God’s hands.

Who Will Lullaby The Grandfather’s?

“Since my husband left, we feel very alone at night and on the weekends. My kids (& even me I’ll admit) are afraid sometimes. I found that when I play Karen’s Music it chases away fear from my home. So at night and in the morning I go strait to the CD player and put her on. My son also struggles with waking up grumpy sometimes, and it’s a guarantee that if he wakes up to Karen singing in the front room, he comes out to greet us in a pleasant mood with a smile (he’s always last to wake up). In the car we listen to her visualization CD’s to keep us focused, with strength and peace. It has been a valuable tool for us. The kids can’t get enough of it, and neither can I. The other night my daughter Samantha was expressing to me one of her fears, and after her story she was glued to my hip where ever I went around the house. I knew that wasn’t healthy, or helping the situation, so I played Karen’s music, and Sammy stopped following me around in fear, and began to find things she wanted to do with a relaxed and peaceful spirit about her. This music is truly a blessing for our family.
Thank you Karen.

Don’t Forget Us!

                              “Don’t Forget Us”

                                By Rayonna Hale

It was in November,2006, as I was traveling home from visiting my daughter and family in Ogden that as I drove past the point of the mountain and the prison, that a clear audible voice said “Don’t forget us!”

Over the years of being a convert member of the “Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints” and having received the gift of the Holy Ghost at baptism, of which is a companion to guide, protect, inspire, comfort, witness, to name just a few, I have learned to “listen” to its promptings, which come in various ways.

Upon hearing this I immediately called my singer songwriter girlfriend, Karyn Grant, and said “Karyn, they want you to sing at the prison…..” It took me several weeks to find out how and who to contact to do this. I was to learn that the prison has several branches with Bishops, Relief Society presidents etc. called.

I came in contact with the Relief Society president, Susan Johnson, and she put the process in the works, which included getting “clearances” for myself and my girlfriend, and all equipment needed to sing. The anticipated day arrived, and we eagerly with prayer arrived to sing for the Relief Society sisters.

The spirit was so strong as Karyn sang her gifts given through song the lyrics and message of love from the Savior, His Atonement, and the remembrance of “who” we really are, “daughters of a Heavenly Father and Mother” princesses, and queens in the making.  Many sisters bore their testimonies to the fact that they had indeed forgotten “who” they were and as a result had made choices which led them to where they were this night.

Our hearts were filled with the common knowledge of a Savior who knows us by “name” and knows our pains and sorrows, who always has His Hand outstretched to ours to lift our burdens, and many times sends others and their hands, hearts and voices to remind us of this very thing.

I personally was overcome with the love I felt for my fellow sisters having had my own experiences traveling lifes highway and recognizing the need for the Savior in my life daily through prayer, and living within the safety of the commandments He has given. I too, having experienced pain through my own choices or choices of loved ones, emotional abuse, substance abuse and addictions,  children born out of wedlock, broken laws of the land. I could easily empathize. What I testified to, to the women, was the Lord heard and was answering their call to “not forget them” and I was reminded of the scripture in D&C 128:22

” Brethren, shall we not go on in so great a cause? Go forward and not backward. Courage, brethren; and on, on to the victory!  Let  your hearts rejoice, and be exceedingly glad. Let the earth break forth into singing. Let the dead speak forth anthems of eternal praise to the King of Immanuel, who hath ordained, before the world was, that which would enable us to redeem them out of their prison; for the prisoners shall go free.”

The Voice of An Angel

I met Kenneth Cope, by listening to his music.  I was deeply touched by the voice of an angel that day.  I heard, in the tone of his voice, something that extended beyond beauty.  I heard a tone that resonated with every fiber of my being.  Here was the voice of compassion, empathy, tenderness and kindness.  One day, I got up the courage to call Kenneth Cope and invite him in to recieve a session with his music as the pervading influence.  He graciously accepted my invitation and came to my home, where I perform music, massage and aromatherapy sessions.

I never knew how blessed I would be by giving that session to Kenneth.  His music serenaded two hearts that day, for nearly two hours, as we listened and wept together of the Savior’s love for everyone!  After his session, Kenneth said, “I’ve heard my music before, but I’ve never felt it like that before.”

Sometimes,  as I wonder, “Who Will Lullaby the Fathers?” I wonder, who will awaken their spirits and lift their souls through the healing power of music and reunite their souls with the knowledge that they are beloved sons of God?  I have been so fortunate to meet, through “divine introduction and divine intervention”, men who love music, who love the Lord and who are consecrating the song of their hearts to bringing to pass, the immortaltiy and eternal life of men, women and children!

It is my intent to lift the hearts of my brothers as well as my sisters—for without man having and experiencing joy, how much joy can a woman really have?  Men are that they might have joy—and women are…that the men they love might have Joy abundantly.  So much of a woman’s happiness is secured by the connection she feels to a man.  Women naturally desire to assist men in the process of becoming filled with contentment, love and happiness.  This is her divine role in being a nurturer.  How great is a woman’s joy, when she senses the happiness of those around her!

Truly, our hearts are turning towards our husbands, fathers, sons and brothers. It is my desire to lift the hearts of men so that they may be touched with a deepening desire to return to their wives, daughters and sisters, feeling an even greater sense of happiness, peace, love and contentment.  A change of heart begins within the one—and spreads to those we love… I send gratitude into the universe for men such as Kenneth Cope, who have consecrated their gifts and talents to raising the vibration to love, joy and peace—-for the sum total of ALL of God’s Children.  I pray that his business, writing “God’s Story” will be magnified, amplified and bring a contagion for love, joy and peace that will lift the hearts of all mankind!

Sending Love Your Way.

The Day I Met Douglas Andrew

This morning, as I was both counting my blessings and praying as to know how to compensate for some financial errors in judgment, I awakened with the reminiscing thought of a wonderful man I met, nearly six years ago.  Douglas Andrew, was the man’s name and he has touched my life forever.  For this reason, I wish to send gratitude out into the universe, that he entered my world when I was beginning my new business.  I got up and went to my computer, pulled up my journal and did a search on the name, “Douglas Andrew”, the man who taught me some beautiful lessons through stories he shared with me, years ago.

I discovered that Douglas Andrew, was now the creator of the Missed Fortune 101, program.  I would love to share a few of the stories that he told me that have made a huge impact on my life.  He told me one story about a man who made a million dollars by simply discovering his own gift and talent.   (I always write my journals to Heavenly Father, and I post it, exactly as it was written that day in March of 2001.)

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 March 10, 2001

 ”Dearest Heavenly Father,

I awoke at 4:00 a.m., arose and created my Get to do list! for the day!  Actually for the week!  It is my new way of returning and reporting and I pray that I may be   guided in my thoughts and actions to truly become a Peacemaker and ”spread love and peace where there is hate and contention” as I know that I can do with my life.

Yesterday, my client, Doug Andrews, came in for his massage.  He told me the story of 200 youth that he and the Stake President gave $2.00 to and taught them the parable of the talents and then told them to go and magnify their talents.  Six weeks later, the youth had created $4, 863.00 between the 200 hundred of them. Then they took the money to the festival of the trees and bought trees for the Primary Childrens hospital.  He paid for his massage with two crisp one hundred dollar bills.  And at the same time…we laughed and said that in six weeks, I would report in as to what I did with those bills—in order to (10 x) magnify it into $2,000.00.  I knew and felt that I should pray for what I could do to magnify that money…  I ended up purchasing my first set of oils.  Sold those four sets and made $800.00

Lullabying in the ICU Unit

Recently, I had the opportunity of visiting a friend’s husband in ICU and ministering to him with the musical and aromatherapy duets…He is paralyzed from the pectorial muscles down.  Please pray for Cameron and Sharon Sevy.  They are part of our “Cherishing Circle”.  If you would like to read about this experience go to “Pages” and read, “Who Will Lullaby My Husband?”

We are here to bless and minister to one another.  We are literally God’s instruments here upon this earth.  Our voices, our hands, our eyes, our words may reflect and radiate the words and actions of those angels beyond the veil, who are prayerfully petitioning the Lord that someone will go and lullaby the men…the husbands…the fathers…the sons…the grandsons…

Never underestimate your ability to be an instrument in God’s hand…for you very well may find yourself being ministered to in the process… Again, if you would like to share in this tender experience, go to “Pages” and read; “Who Will Lullaby My Husband?”

Spreading Love, Joy and Peace
